Keeping Your Garden Hydrated

Even with summer rain, lawns and gardens can get dehydrated from the heat. If you’re seeing dry patches, it’s time to add a few techniques to keep your landscape lush and healthy.

  • Morning Water Routine: Start your day by watering your lawn and plants before the sun gets too warm. A sprinkler system is a great solution if you don’t have the time to water by hand.
  • Cut High, Not Short: Raise your lawn mower’s blade so you leave your grass a little longer than usual. This helps the lawn retain moisture and nutrients. Leaving grass clippings on the lawn can also act as a natural mulch.
  • Mulch for Moisture: A layer of mulch acts as a shield against the sun, helping the soil retain moisture and keeping roots cool. It also helps eliminate weeds.

Storing Your Summer Harvest

If you planted a bunch of produce this spring and summer, you’ll need a plan for preserving the harvest before the season changes. Here are a few ways to make the most of your supply.

  • Freezing the Goods: Many fruits and vegetables hold up great in the freezer. Simply wash and pat them dry before storing them in a freezer-safe container or bag. When you’re ready to use them, just defrost!
  • Pickle Time: Crops like cucumbers and green beans are perfect for pickling. There are endless options for flavors, so get creative! Just make sure you have the right jars and containers for the job.

Fall Project Planning

Now is the perfect time to start planning so you can tackle all of your home improvement projects this fall.

  • Autumn Flourish: Fall is a great season for planting perennial flowers and shrubs. Add some character to your garden with colorful mums to get that festive fall style. Come check out our greenhouse for some inspiration!
  • Deck Work: If you have a deck or outdoor patio space, the fall is a perfect time to get some maintenance done after hosting summer parties. The cooler temperatures are ideal for sanding, staining, or painting.
